If you are an athlete or a coach considering relocating to Canada, then consider the Federal Self-Employed Person class. This program is geared towards applicants who wish to come to Canada as a self-employed person, who are qualified to make a significant contribution to the cultural artistic or athletic life in Canada.
Under the Self-Employed persons Program, eligible occupations within the athletic field include:
- 5251 Athletes
- 5252 Coaches
- 5253 Sports Officials and Referees
- 5254 Program Leaders and Instructors in Recreation, Sport and Fitness
To qualify for this program, an applicant must be able to satisfy the following requirement:
- Must meet the definition of a self-employed person, which means having relevant work experience either
- (a) by taking part in “cultural or sporting activities at an international level”; or
- (b) by being self-employed in the field of cultural or sporting activities.
- Must exceed the minimum score under the selection criteria for self-employed people (a minimum of 35 points out of 100).
- Pass medical and security checks.
- Demonstrate sufficient financial resources.
